Trafic control

Mainly for Gate automation purposes, DIS supplies all types of traffic control equipment such as:

  • Barriers
  • Traffic lights
  • Lane signage & Bill boards
  • Sensors
The combination of the above needs to make it possible to guide trucks through a facility and follow dedicated process steps. All equipment is effectively integrated through our Global Control System, thereby making it possible to monitor the status and control any component remotely. 
 
Other functionality deployed via GCS is automatic management of “queuing”; in case a large amount of trucks are counted at a specific process point, trucks can be queued at a previous process point by holding barriers closed for example.
 
 

Barrier, Traffic Lights, Cross/Arrow boards

The pole barrier is often deployed at the perimeter to control over unauthorized access. Sometimes, combined with a traffic light to clearly indicate the truck status (stop/go). Above gate and OCR lanes, the cross/arrow indicator is typically used to indicate if a lane is open for business or not. This comes in handy as well in case of maintenance or queuing mechanisms. 
 

Lane signage & Bill Boards

When it is required to dynamically direct trucks to specific area’s (e.g. based on a tag read when driving or an exception occures) or when it is required to inform a larger group of truck drivers, lane signage and bill boards can be applied. 
 
Lane Signage can be deployed in order to indicate from a distance which lane to select. Typically this is only necessary in case various types of lanes are dynamically used, e.g. different types of trucks or in case lanes are used in different types of directions. For ‘simple’ indication of open/closed, we recommend to use a cross/arrow indicator.
 
 

Sensors

In order to prevent any damage to OCR portals, an over height detection system can be deployed to detect over height and prevent drivers from driving further. Detection will be done using sensors that are mounted to a construction (excluded, can be provided on request) positioned before the OCR portal. 
 
Based on detection of over height, multiple actions can be executed to prevent damage:
 
  • Automatically close a barrier, in case deployed before the OCR lane
  • Automatically switch traffic lights, cross/arrow indicators (traffic manager) to red, indicating the lane is closed
  • Display an alarm in case lane signage is deployed over the road or above the OCR lanes.
